TEEN HOMESCHOOLERS

Today is Earth Day. Our Homeschool Teen Community Service Team met at the local Department of Human Service building to help Senior Citizens shred their personal documents.

Senior Shred Day is a bi-annual event that allows senior citizens to safely destroy their private documents.

Our teens helped them lift the heavy boxes and bags out of their vehicles and place them into the garbage bins for shredding.

As the shred trucks arrived it was apparent that this was going to be a fast and furious event.
We arrived on scent at 8:30AM. The event was to begin at 9:00am. Though we arrived a half hour early, there was already a line of cars from the shredding sight out of the parking lot and down the main road!

The one hour event was jam packed with work and non-stop cars moving into position for their turn to shred documents.

As cars pulled into place beside the shredding truck our homeschool teens buzzed like bees around the vehicles opening trunks, truck beds and car doors to remove unwanted documents and place them safely into the shredding bins.

A couple of other homeschooling parents were waiting there with me to view our kids in action. We were very pleased to see how hard our children worked and that they were gratious enough to understand when a man or woman decided they wanted to take the items to the shredding bin themselves. Privacy is important and our kids were happily understood that.

I and another mom watched in surprise and amusement as two separate elderly men nearly drove off without their wives. One man did drive off without her.

Snickering was unavoidable, I have to say.

In the end, we all had a great time and the kids have another experience under their belt.
