RAIN OR SHINE, SHOES OR NO SHOES...
...shirt or no shirt...Every Friday is "Ice Cream Truck Day" at our home.
I've set a day for the boys to enjoy ice cream from the Ice Cream Truck so that I don't have to hear whining and crying each and every time our sons hear the music ringing this way and that, up and down our community as the truck drives to and fro.
If a boy comes in asking for ice cream from the truck my answer is,
"What day is it?"
If the day is anything other than Friday, the answer is no.
That rule has saved Brian and I quite a few headaches and money. I recently set another rule for our twins, Daxx and Kole. Though the twins still want to take turns carrying ALL of the ice cream into the house so they can give it out to their brothers and parents. LOL Daxx had his turn on this particular Friday.
Well, another parenting opportunity has shown up recently. The older boys get to walk to the corner markets when they turn 8 years old. It is a right of passage to be able to walk around Detroit alone at that age. I can't believe I allow it, but there you go. Every once in a blue moon I've been allowing a twin to accompany the random older brother to the local store. That set the stage for daily whining and questions that rang throughout our home hour after hour, day after day.
Kole: "Can I go to the store with Kazz?"
No.
"Can I go to the store with Brise?"
No.
"Can I go to the store with Vinze?"
No.
"Whyyyy?!"
Me: "Ope, time for a nap. Mom said no. That's not an invitation to ask me why or begin crying. That's a direct response to your question my dear son. Nothing more, nothing less. Hop along..."
Daxx... "Can I go to the store with Kazz."
Me: *sigh*
When you have two of the same age...life does get tedious.
Time to make another rule...
Yesterday the routine went like this...
Kole: "Can I go to the store with Kazz?"
Me: "Is today Thursday?"
Daxx and Kole: "No."
Me: "You may go to the store on Thursday."
Daxx and Kole. "YAY! YAY!!" as they jump around, hooting and hollering.
Who knew it was that easy?!

Great story. Down at the beach, we have a love-hate relationship with the ice cream truck. Do I love to give the girls a special treat, once a week or so? Yes. Do I hate to hear the bell ring and the little song playing from down the street when I know I don't have two nickels to rub together in my bathing suit or beach bag?!
Have a great weekend...I'm hoping to do an EntreFind at some point, but we're down at the beach with the ice cream man so all bets are off...
