Last year Vinze came into the house to tell Brian that he almost killed himself mowing our lawn "because of the big hole in the front yard." Brian told him to be careful next time. Vinze said he would, "but it's a really big hole."
What we did not realize, and what Vinze was trying to describe, was that a massive sink hole had developed on the easement near our street. The drain pipe had caved in creating a 3' to 4' deep hole that was about as large in diameter....and growing every time it rained.
Brian went out to investigate after Kole came in and said he also, "about killed himself."
Brian couldn't believe the size of that sucker. He called the city and they sent "people" out to fill it with gravel...a few times...each time it rained hard. They were also kind enough to place a very pretty, bright yellow, caution barrier made of plywood and a two-by-four, on top of it. The yard decoration has been displayed, for all to see, for nearly a year now. I've been overjoyed about it.
Well, lo-and-behold, "they" came to fix the problem today. It may be because the thing was sinking so much this time that our sidewalk was caving in?? Could that possibly be the reason? Who knows?
All I know is that it is being dealt with and we should have a safe yard, yet again, very soon....and that yard decoration will be history.
Thank you, City People, for working in this heat to get this accomplished.
