WHAT DO CLEANING LADIES DO EXACTLY?

I am not a great housekeeper. Oh, I do the laundry, sweep, and tidy up the kitchen. I pick up toys, wipe up spills, scrub counters, and declutter as the day goes along...BUT I don't scour floors, mop or check under beds regularly. I don't dust very often, unless I see words written in it..I really just don't.

I don't know if I have the time to do these things but frankly, I don't care to find the time. That being said...I would LIKE it to get done regularly and I know I'm not the person for the job. I know this because I've been married 18 years, a mom for 16 years and I still don't do it...so there ya go...

For all of the above reasons I've been contemplating hiring a cleaning person. I have contemplated this for a few years actually but one thing that keeps creeping into my mind is that we have 5 sons and 3 dogs. Do cleaning ladies actually pick up after THIS type of household? Do they come in initially to help me organize? Do I need to hire someone to help me organize, declutter and scour before I have the regular cleaning person visits?

I tried to hire a cleaning person a couple of years ago. That was a disaster. I left our home for the day and came home at the end of the day to see it in the exact same shape as when I left except that I could smell Pine Sol. The dining room chairs were left right where they had been after breakfast and the whole 9 yards. The beds looked like our sons made them and not a sheet one was tucked in.

I'd just like to have clean floors at least ONCE a week! Maybe that's just too much to ask?

We've had the same cleaning lady for almost four years, and right now I am cheating on her while she's on a two month vacation. I will probably post about it one of these days, but the Roxiticus Desperate Housewives all share the symptoms of Pre Housekeeper Traumatic Stress Disorder in which we lose our minds trying to prepare for the cleaning lady the night before she comes!
