SAD SITUATION IN THE NEWS OVER GRADES...

Our eldest son has been to both public and private schools however, we have homeschooled most of his life. What I have learned from our schooling experiences is that all of those days that we spent after school helping him do his homework were wasted moments we could have been spending bonding as a family.

I've learned that GRADES MEAN NOTHING...NADA...ZIP...ZILCH!

Our son and many other homeschooling children are accepted into colleges without a grade one.
Kazz did not take the ACT or the SAT. He did not have to submit a transcript or a grade point average. They didn't care one little bit. He was accepted at 14 years of age. Why? You ask. Because he is a homeschooled kid with no bondage to a school system. He is free. Free I say! He can go to college, get his degree and graduate with an associate degree all before the age of 18!

What about socialization? We don't go to school to socialize. We go to school to be educated! How many times did the teacher say those very words? The problem is that we can both educate and socialize at home. Our children socialize every day with kids their own age and kids of different ages.

Why am I so bent out of shape right now?! Because I JUST read this...

Why in the world would a sane parent tell their son who is an Eagle Scout and a Volunteer Fire Fighter that if he doesn't get his GRADES up that they are going to make him stop doing the things that he loves?! BECAUSE THEY ARE BRAINWASHED INTO BELIEVING THAT GRADES MATTER WHEN THE FACT IS THAT THEY INDEED DO NOT!

LIFE MATTERS!
LOVE MATTERS!

This bright boy could have been bonding with his family, doing all of the volunteering and learning all there is to learn in the Eagle Scouts. Instead his parents essentially told him that he is a failure and not up to par. What his passions were meant nothing to them unless he did more, more, more! They wanted more! They wanted him to meet some standardized test score so he could REALLY become something. Well he bacame something. He became depressed and commited suicide.

What a crying shame!

Man this makes me angry!

'I'm at a loss' also. I'm so with you there on the angry part. When are parents going to realize that there is more to a child then just doing well in the eye's of others. It's a sad thing when a child looses his/her hope and it becomes all about pleasing the parent. There is a fine line between trying to do or be your best because you care about your integrity and trying to do or be your best because someone is holding your hopes and dreams hostage.

I am so emotional about this. It really struck me that he was happy, healthy and loving life until "grades" came into the picture. The parents were following right along with what society says is the appropriate thing to do and he suffered because of it.

This is going to weigh on my mind for quite some time.

People forget that we are to please GOD first and then we will receive favor in the sight of man.

THE WORLD IS BACKWARDS!!!!!
