FIRST DAY OF "AWAY" SCHOOL

Those who know us well, know that Brian and I have always held to the belief that all of our children should experience at least one year in Public or Private school.

Kazz went to both public and private school.  Brise went to public school one year and Daxx went to public school last year.

It's just something we feel the need to allow our children to do, but the hard part is determining when that will happen for each child.

This year, the decision was made for us.

Our foster daughter has to go to school because we aren't allowed to homeschool foster children.  I can't post pictures of her online either, and that really stinks because she's an absolute doll.

Daxx also needed to go back for another year to have a few services implemented; So we thought we might as well throw in 2 more kids and let them all get this year under their belt at the same time.

We were going to send them to our local public school, but Brian happened to notice a flyer one evening about a new Charter School opening in our neck of the city.  There happened to be a meet and greet scheduled so we decided to go see what this school is all about.

Their goals are all about Technology and the Future.   It's a super small school so we feel that our children can't get lost in the cracks because there just aren't enough kids to block their path.

This is also the first year that the school has been open, so all of the teachers are chomping at the bit to make this thing work.  They all have something to prove and we really like that!

The school is located in an "old" Catholic school that had been closed down.  It's actually attached to the church.  I get to drop our children off at church for school.  That's super nice....not only because it's based in a church but also because it's free!

So, it begins today.   Our "littles" are experiencing their year "away" for school.  I get to hang out with our 8th grader, Brisan.  We have a lot to get finished before he begins college classes next year.  If today is any indicator, we'll meet that goal.  We have had nothing but quiet on our hands here today.  We've finished with the days assignments and it's only Noon!

With no interruptions, things get done quickly.
Who knew?

So, I have time to do laundry!  Can you believe it?

Yes, I think I'm going to like this year.  Just listen to that...  (crickets)  It's the sweet, sweet sound of clarity and nerves regrowing.  It's a beautiful thing.  *sigh*

How interesting, Shelly. Somehow, I never managed to catch on to that about your family's education style. Get this...soon I just may no longer be a homeschooling mom! Adrian and I are going tomorrow to check out a local charter school that focuses on the arts. He is seriously considering enrolling. If all goes well tomorrow he could likely be in an awesome school setting for free as well. It seems like it will be a good transition from our schooling style as it is very relaxed and very small, too. So excited...and nervous! With Andrew in college I may very well get to listen to crickets occasionally myself. :o)
